How To Tell What Control Arms Your 2016-2017-2018 Chevy Silverado & GMC Sierra Has

Aug 10th 2016

So you are looking to order a McGaughys drop kit or McGaughys lift kit for your brand new 2016 -2017-2018 & Up Chevy Silverado or GMC Sierra but you're not sure what kit or control arms you need?! No problem, we go to you covered.

GM decided in 2014 to come out with a new Aluminum control arm for their trucks on some models in addition to the standard cast steel control arms. Below is the differences in those 2 control arms. You will also notice the third option which is brand new for the 2016.5-2017-2018 and up trucks. These are known as the AVV code stamped HD control arms.

*** UPDATE-  We find that 2014-2015 Models are usually Cast Steel Or Aluminum Arms, 2016 can be any of the three options and most 2016.5-2018 Models are Stamped Steel... HOWEVER!!! This is not always the case! You should for sure double check as the ball joints are different and will pose part fitment issues! ***

The easiest way to tell if you have the new AVV stamped HD control arms on your 2016-2017 Chevy Silverado or GMC Sierra is to look at the back of the lower control arm. The AVV HD Stamped arms will have a big weld connecting the 2 pieces of the stampings as seen here-

We hope this helps clear up any of the control arm questions on these new trucks and makes buying your McGaughys drop kit or McGaughys lift kit much easier! If you have any questions at all please give us a call, email or live chat us for instant help!
